Androgenic or female androgenetic alopecia is one of the most frequent alopecia’s, which affects at least 25% of women throughout their lives. 4 out of 10 women after menopause.

Characteristics of this alopecia

It is characterized in that it does not manifest itself in the form of hair loss, but in a loss of capillary density, that is, “lightened” areas begin to appear. The most frequent areas where this loss of density is most reflected is in the frontal area and in the parietal area.

It is easy to distinguish, especially in hairstyles with the parting in the middle, where each time it will widen more and make the scalp more visible. Total female baldness is not frequent since in these cases the hair follicles continue to grow hair, although in less quantity and finer. If it begins to manifest before menopause, it is called early and late if it occurs after.

Causes:

This hair loss may be due to:

  • Genetic factors
  • Hormonal: Due to a greater presence of certain male hormones such as testosterone, androsterone and dihydrotestosterone, due to the arrival of menopause.
  • To aging: Getting older also affects the growth and health of the hair.

In special cases it may be associated with concomitant diseases, such as vitamin deficiencies, anorexia or hypocaloric diets...
